Instructor Bio: Matt Corcoran


Matthew Corcoran is a senior cg modeler, both mechanical and organic, with extensive experience in Anatomy, specializing in Character Design, Modeling & Texturing for the games and Visual Effects industries.

Matthew currently works for AnatomyTools.com as a free-lance artist, and previously for the companies, Pacific Digital Image, Cinematico, Liquid Development and other clients in the commercial and entertainment industry.

Matthew graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Columbus College of Art & Design in 2006 with an Emphasis in 3D Modeling & Texturing, Extensive traditional art and design foundation.

In 2007 he started his professional career immediately after graduating, at InterActive Group LCC in Ohio, where he was responsible for 3D modeling, animation, lighting, and texturing for educational animation in exhibits nationwide

In 2008 An offer to do Photo-real modeling and texturing for animation and print from the company XYZ Graphics brought Matthew to San Francisco. where he then progressed to work for Pacific Digital Image in their CGI Department as a free-lance artist, responsible for photo-real modeling, lighting and rendering.

An opportunity then arose to then work in the Game Industry as a Lead Character artist for Liquid Development, modeling and texturing realistic video game characters, clothing and props, working on titles like Max Payne 3.

Wishing to focus on high-end, high-resolution game Matthew then went to work for Cinematico Inc, where he was a Senior Character Artist, supervising a modeling team for game characters and props intended  for high-end game Cinematics.

A desire to work in the movie industry led Matthew to seek out expanding his skills and knowledge in human anatomy by working directly for vfx artist and anatomy expert Andrew Cawrse, previous cg model supervisor at Industrial Light & magic, and founder of the company AnatomyTools.com.

Matt worked for AnatomyTools.com for 3 years where he assisted Andrew Cawrse in the modeling and production of the 1/6th scale Male Anatomy Figures and was intricately involved with the 1/6th scale Male Skeleton.  In addition he worked on prototyping, R&D, and the creation of master assets and mold masters for factory mass production. 

During this time at Anatomytools.com Matt also supervised other 3D artists and worked with the development of 3D models, 3D Scanning, scan data alignment, scan cleanup and remeshing for the creation of anatomical reference figures.

Matthew's growth and gained skills at AnatomyTools.com allowed him to become an Assistant Anatomy Instructor, providing content and hands on teaching of human anatomy with both traditional and digital mediums, as well as being the Workshop Manager, where he assisted in workshops for Andrew Cawrse, Carlos Haunte, Jordu Schell, Mark Newman, John Neill, Kris Costa, Michael Hampton, and more.
